幾重にも重なる紙の層は、時の深さと形の必然を映し出す。
そこから立ち上がる像は、自然と人工のあわいに漂う新たな進化である。
紙機譚(しきたん)と名付けられた本シリーズは、紙という身近でありながら繊細な素材を幾層にも切り抜き、積み重ねることで成立している。紙は木々から生まれ、自然の循環の中に存在する有機的な素材である。その紙を切断し、再構築するプロセスは、人間が自然に手を加え、新たな秩序や形態を生み出す行為そのものである。ここには、自然が本来持つ生成の力と、人間の技術による構築の力が交差する瞬間が示されている。
外形としては生物的なフォルムを保ちながら、その内部には機械的な構造を思わせる形態が刻まれている。これにより、作品は「自然の身体」と「人工の装置」という二つの要素を同時に映し出す存在となっている。自然素材の紙を使いながら、そこに人工的なイメージを重ね合わせること。それ自体が、人間が生み出した新たな進化のあり方を象徴している。
ここで掲げられている「現代型進化論」とは、生命がただ偶然の変化や自然淘汰によって進化していくのではなく、人間の技術や思想が進化の方向性を決定づける時代を指している。遺伝子編集や人工知能、機械との融合といった領域は、自然界が築いてきた進化のプロセスを超え、意図的かつ加速的に未来を形づくろうとしている。本作品は、そのような現代の進化観を紙という素材に託し、視覚的に表現する試みである。
紙という最も脆く短命な素材に、機械的な構造や未来的なフォルムを刻み込むことは、自然と人工がせめぎ合いながらも共存する姿を象徴している。つまり、この作品は「自然と技術の融合によって生まれる新しい進化像」を提示しているのである。
本作品を前にする鑑賞者は、紙の持つ温度や質感の奥に、未来へと拡張する進化のビジョンを感じ取るだろう。そこには、人間の営みが自然に介入し、新たな生命像を形づくる現代的な進化の姿が映し出されている。
This series, titled "Shikitan," is created by cutting and stacking multiple layers of paper, a familiar yet delicate material. Paper is born from trees and is an organic material that exists within the cycle of nature. The process of cutting and reconstructing paper is an act of humans intervening in nature to create new order and form. It illustrates the moment when the innate generative power of nature and the constructive power of human technology intersect.
While maintaining an externally biological form, the interior is engraved with a mechanical structure. This allows the works to simultaneously reflect the two elements of "natural bodies" and "artificial devices." The use of natural paper and the superimposition of artificial imagery on it symbolizes a new form of evolution created by humans.
The "modern theory of evolution" advocated here refers to an era in which life does not evolve simply through chance change or natural selection, but rather in which human technology and thought determine the direction of evolution. Fields such as gene editing, artificial intelligence, and machine integration are intentionally and acceleratingly shaping the future, going beyond the evolutionary processes established by nature. This work attempts to visually express this modern view of evolution through the material of paper.
The inscription of mechanical structures and futuristic forms on paper, the most fragile and short-lived material, symbolizes the coexistence of nature and the artificial, even as they compete with each other. In other words, this work presents a "new image of evolution born from the fusion of nature and technology."
Viewers of this work will sense a vision of evolution expanding into the future within the warmth and texture of the paper. It reflects a modern form of evolution in which human activity intervenes in nature and shapes a new image of life.
